Granco Clark Hot Saw
Melbourne, Australia
Extrusions Australia has selected Granco Clark and the HBCS 69 Hot Log Saw to replace a hot log shear for its existing extrusion 7” press. The Granco Clark Hot Saw replaces a five-year-old Mei Rei shear, providing Extrusions Australia with the Hot Saw’s clear benefits of square saw cuts and reduced scrap.
Brampton, Ontario, Canada
Almag Aluminum has again selected Granco Clark to upgrade the heating system on an existing press line. The equipment is a Model HBCS 69 Hot Log Saw. Transport equipment to deliver the billet to the press is also included. This equipment was custom designed to mount and integrate with an existing “Non-Granco Clark” furnace. This is the second new Granco Clark saw system that Almag has added within the last year.
The new cutting system will provide Almag with equipment that will offer accurate and consistent length billets to the extrusion press. The use of the saw eliminates the deformation of the existing ‘80s era log shear design. The system also provides a “no-scrap” cycle that will utilize the entire log by making two-piece billets at the log junctions.
They have also selected Granco Clark to upgrade their existing 6” runout conveyor with Kevlar covered rollers and a hot profile saw positioned at the press platen. The runout conveyor consists of idle rolls that were designed to replace a 70s era slat conveyor system. At the platen end, the hot profile saw automatically severs the extrusion during the dead-cycle, eliminating the need for operator intervention.
Hamilton, New Zeeland

Granco Clark has completed a new extrusion handling system at Ullrich Aluminum Pty Ltd.’s Hamilton, New Zeeland facility.
The new handling system features include a Runout Cooling Duct System along with a High Pressure Spray Quench to provide the greatest rate of heat transfer possible, allowing for maximum extrusion speed with minimum space requirements. The system includes a Granco Clark Double Puller with two puller heads on the same track to deliver a “cut on the fly” capability.
A Transfer and Cooling Belt System is integrated with the stretcher to straighten and batch profiles for downstream operations. An 80-ton CVC (Controlled Vertical Crush) Stretcher provides precise, accurate stretching that will enhance profile quality and minimize scrap. The system also includes a Saw and Saw Gauge, providing close-tolerance cutting and allowing for maximum throughput with limited manual intervention.
Kolkata, India
Production is now underway at Century Extrusions Ltd.’s newest 3000T ton press at their Kharagpur, West Bangal, India facility. Granco Clark engineered and installed the semi-automated handling system for the new press line, featuring a 1000 lb double puller capable of “on the fly” cutting. The line also includes a Granco Clark precision High Pressure water quench capable of handling profiles up to 20kg/meter. Semi-automated high temperature belts, stretcher and a full sawing system are also incorporated into this system.
Delhi, Louisiana, USA
Sapa Extrusions, L.L.C., of Delhi, Louisiana has upgraded heating and handling systems on two press lines with Granco Clark equipment, enhancing efficiency while reducing handling and reducing scrap.
One press line was upgraded with a Granco Clark Model 69 Hot Jet Log Furnace and Model HBCS 69 Hot Log Saw; the second was equipped with a 812 Furnace/Hot Saw combination. In each case, the saw permits accurate and consistent-length billets to be sent to the press, avoiding deformations caused by older log shear designs. Each system will also include a “no-scrap” cycle that will use the entire log by creating two-piece billets at log junctions.
Granco Clark Double Pullers with cut-on-the-fly capabilities are also included on each line, replacing an outdated single-puller /dead cycle saw arrangement on one line, increasing its productivity to the limits of its handling system.
The other Double Puller, added to a press line that previously had no puller; is optimizing system capacity and process control while reducing scrap.
LongKou, China
Granco Clark is nearing the completion of new installations at the NanShan Aluminum facility in Shandong Province, China. New Granco Clark heating and handling equipment including an aging system and the die ovens is being integrated with a new 9,000-ton SMS press. The heating system consists of a Hot Jet Furnace and integrated Hot Log Saw capable of processing 19” (490mm) diameter logs and billets.
The handling system is specified to accommodate a 16.5” (420mm) high profile. The High Pressure Spray Quench, “flying cut” Double Puller, 350-ton Stretcher and Extrusion Cutoff Saw are all designed to this profile height.
Suzhou, China
LPSK Aluminum of Suzhou, China has selected Granco Clark to supply several components for its new 2750-ton press line. The order includes the well-respected Granco Clark Double Puller—the first “cut-on-the-fly” puller ever operated by LPSK.
Granco Clark will also provide the heating technology with a Model 69 Hot Jet Log Furnace, and a Model 7/9 Hot Log Saw. The order also includes transport equipment to deliver the billet to the press. Profiles will be cooled by a Granco Clark High Pressure Spray Quench.
The new line will provide LPSK with a high production system for 9” diameter billets. This will enable the company to enhance its offerings to both the architectural and industrial profile sectors.
The Granco Clark Spinning Log Welder has been featured in recent issues of two leading industry publications. In the August 2009 issue of Light Metal Age, the New Technology Spotlight column features the Spinning Log Welder. The article is entitled "Raising Extrusion Billet Utilization with Spinning Log Welding Process". Aluminium International Today also featured the Spinning Log Welder in their June 2009 issue entitled, "Spinning Log Welder for Two-Piece Billets".
