New Granco Clark System at Expanded Indalex Facility Enhances Productivity and Efficiency

Belding, Michigan— Complete heating and handling systems from Granco Clark have been installed and integrated with a new 6000-ton press at the expanded Indalex aluminum extrusion facility in Connersville, IN. The new line enhances the company’s capabilities to serving customers in the commercial, rail, and automotive transportation sectors as well as those in the metal distribution market.

Indalex Aluminum Solutions, headquartered in Lincolnshire, IL, selected the Granco Clark Hot Jet Log Furnace with HBCS Hot Log Saw capable of sawing billets up to 63” long and 16” in diameter. The installation also includes a 1200 GPM High Pressure Spray Profile Quench with dedicated cooling tower, a full-length, dedicated, integral cooling-duct system, and over-table duct cooling with imbedded misting capabilities and airflow control.

Also part of the new line, a Granco Clark 2500 lb. Double Puller capable of handling 35 lb/ft profiles up to 14” high, a traversing-beam cooling table with timing belts throughout the system, an auto-sample cut saw located on the cooling table, and a 350-ton automated cam-style stretcher. A new offload system features a unique profile rotator, enabling cut metal to be rotated 180 degrees for inspection, an inline auto-scrap conveyor and saw system, and a fork-style stacking system for loading to age racks directly into packing jigs.

The system incorporates unique scrap-handling capabilities as well; all scrap is consolidated into a single area through an “enhanced chip collection system” for the double puller and advanced chip collection for three saws; an advanced underground end-scrap conveyor also handles butt scrap off the press and advances all scrap out of the facility directly onto waiting trucks.

Founded in 1947, Granco Clark began manufacturing billet furnaces and has evolved into a global, single-source supplier and leading equipment manufacturer to the aluminum extrusion industry.  Quality is a key component in every extrusion system the company fabricates—from billet log furnaces and log shears to age ovens and stacking equipment.  In 1986, the company introduced the Granco Clark Supervisory Computer System (SCS) to enhance efficiency by developing schedules, loading equipment parameters, tracking faults, and logging production and downtime data.  This integrated control system has since developed into SCSExtrude—the next generation nerve center for automated extrusion lines.  SCSExtrude helps Granco Clark customers improve extrusion line management and reduces equipment downtime.
